Real Madrid Football History

Real Madrid Football History

The Real Madrid C.F commonly known as Real Madrid is a football club that is based in Madrid, Spain. The Madrid Football Club was founded in the year 1902. The King Alfonso XIII bestowed the name real to the club in the year 1920; the word ‘real’ means royal in Spanish, and from then onwards, the club was called as Real Madrid. Real Madrid football club is one of the highest earning clubs in the world and makes about 577 million Euros in annual revenue. The club is also one of the most loved and supported teams in the whole world.

Madrid Football Club:

The students of the Institución Libre de Enseñanza had introduced football to Spain. During the early years of the 1900s, a club called sky was formed, and the team played on Sunday Mornings at the Moncloa. Later the club had split into two, one was named as the New Foot-Ball de Madrid and the second one was Madrid Football Club. In the year 1902, a new president was elected, and Madrid Football Club was officially founded.

The team moved to the Campo de O’Donnell ground in the year 1912, and the Madrid Football club later won four consecutive Copa del Rey titles. The Copa del Rey Titles was not famous as it is today’s world; back then it was just a state-wide competition.  During the Spanish civil war the team dropped off the name Real and also the royal crown from the emblem and was named only as Madrid F.C and they club hardly existed due to the civil war.

Real Madrid’s youth academy:

After the civil war, Santiago Bernabéu Yeste was responsible for rebuilding the club. He developed the team and recruited various others who would improve the team and club. In the 1950s, a player from the club, Miguel Malbo founded the Real Madrid’s youth academy; today the institute is known as La Fábrica.

Santiago Bernabéu Yeste wanted to build a multinational team, and so he started to hire players from all over the world. In the year 1953, the Argentine player, Alfredo di Stéfano was appointed, and many others from other countries were also hired.  Bernabéu played a significant role in shaping the club in Spanish and European football. He was the president of the club for about 33 years during which the team won an Intercontinental Cup, six European Cups, 16 La Liga titles and six Spanish Cups.

FIFA Club:

Real Madrid has ever since been a great football club and many skilled players had played in the club through the years. They showed their excellence in both domestic level football games and also on international matches. On 11th December 2000, the club was recognized as the FIFA Club of the 20th century. They also received the FIFA Centennial Order of Merit on 20 May 2004. The club actively tries to maintain the quality that was built years back, and in the year 2017, the Real Madrid was one of the first team to win back to back Champions League.
